Traumatic Grief

Grief can be compared to a strong storm with moderate flooding. Just as a storm brings heavy rain and strong winds that disrupt daily life, grief comes with intense emotions that shake a person’s sense of normalcy. The initial downpour of sorrow can feel overwhelming, much like the torrential rain of a storm, making it hard to see clearly or find direction.

However, moderate flooding, while disruptive, does not completely wash everything away—it lingers, seeps into places unexpectedly, and takes time to recede. Similarly, grief doesn’t always destroy; instead, it seeps into different aspects of life, altering routines and emotions. Like floodwaters, grief may rise and fall, sometimes feeling manageable and at other times surging unexpectedly. Recovery from both requires time, support, and a process of rebuilding—learning to navigate the changed landscape while carrying the weight of what was lost.
